A little update from my adventures in the Alchemy kitchen. Say hello to our new product, medicinal gummies! These chewable dinos might just be my favorite recipe ever. I've been having a great time trying out new recipes for the upcoming Alchemy kids menu, and my own children have been super willing guinae pigs.

Why are we making our own chewy candy from scratch?

I'm sure you know - the ingredient list of a packet of traditional gummies are a shemozzle of refined sugar, genetically modified corn syrup, gelatin, artificial preservatives, chemical flavors, and colors derived from the petroleum industry. Is it just me or does that sound like an evil concoction by the mischievous witch of horrorville?

Everyone agrees that sugar and corn syrup increase your risk for type 2 diabetes, heart disease, fatty liver, cancer and premature ageing. And then there's the gelatin, made from slaughter leftovers like bones, ligaments, skin, and ears – yikes. That should be enough to turn anyone off. But there's more. Artificial colors, flavors and preservatives cause hyperactivity, ADHD, allergies and asthma, especially in little ones. Many of these questions chemicals have been shown to cause cancer in children, and have therefore been banned and removed from several countries. But they are still on the shelf in others. Huh?

Picking up a bag of multicoloured teddy-bear shaped lollies from the eyesight of your 3-year-old toddler and reading the label can make anyone realise that feeding kids conventional candy on a regular basis is just not an option anymore.

Little ones are developing their taste for food, which will effect their eating habits for life. As parents, we can help "educate their palate” by offering clean, whole foods with lots of fruits and vegetables. To give them a good start will help them develop a taste for real food. On the other hand, sugar, artificial flavors, corn syrup and chemical colors will have the opposite effect. It can hijack their palate to the point where fruits and vegetables lose much of their appeal.

That's why I've taken matters into my own hands and created these chewy superfood candies full of medicinal ingredients. Only.

Don't worry, the taste is incredibly non-healthy, so your kids won't even have to know these gummies are super good for them. As you may know – I'm a big fan of the crowding out method, especially when it comes to kids. To outlaw, forbid and remove things don't seem to work. Adding, replacing and upgrading are the ways to get kids to eat better in my experience.
